Lasers have been successfully used on humans for over 30 years.  This human experience is proving to be beneficial for pets and their owners.  We are pleased to be among the first veterinary practices to offer laser surgery specifically for pets.  In many procedures, the laser can replace the scalpel and provide a better alternative to traditional surgery.

A laser is a device that generates an intense beam of light at a specific wavelength.  The laser sterilizes as it removes diseased tissue or makes surgical incisions, killing bacteria that cause infection.  It can also remove unhealthy tissue while minimizing adverse affects to healthy surrounding tissue.  Recovery is rapid and there is less post-operative discomfort.

The laser energy seals nerve endings as it moves through tissue.  As a result your pet will feel less pain post-operatively.  The laser also seals small blood vessels during surgery, which allows your doctor to perform surgeries with extraordinary precision.  This also speeds some procedures reducing the need for anesthesia.  In addition, laser energy does not crush, tear or bruise because only a beam of intense light contacts the tissue.

A laser is ideal for a wide variety of surgical procedures for dogs and cats.  Laser energy can correct many common conditions such as cysts, tumors, warts, and infections that may occur around the eyes, ears, in the mouth, and anywhere on the skin. Specialized internal procedures are also possible.  Your veterinarian will be able to tell you if your pet’s procedure can be performed with a laser.  Almost all of our surgeries offered at the Animal Care Hospital are performed using the laser.

We are pleased to offer laser surgery as an exciting new option for safe, comfortable treatment.
